Lana Condor talks first dates: “I made the first move”

On February 12, “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You,” the second installment in the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” franchise hit Netflix, and fans of YA rom-coms couldn’t be happier.

The movie, starring Lana Condor, Noah Centineo and Jordan Fisher, follows Lara Jean Covey (played by Condor) as she navigates her first real loves and relationships.

In The Know caught up with Condor to get some dating advice in time for Valentine’s Day and to hear about what kind of advice the 22-year-old (and new #AerieREAL role model) would give to her high school self.

When it comes to making the first move, Condor shared that she was the one to reach out to her long-term boyfriend, actor and musician Anthony De La Torre.

“I made the first move in my own relationship. What I did is I ran up and I tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around and I said, ‘Hey, really quick, could I get your number, because I have a joke I wanted to tell you and I forgot it and I’ll probably remember it later, so I’ll text you the joke later.’ And that’s how I got his number”

As for first dates, Condor suggests sticking with a classic night of dinner and a movie. And when it comes to her go-to first date outfits, she says you can’t go wrong with a skirt and oversized sweater that is both cute and cozy (she’s a fan of Aerie’s!).

Condor also shared some wise words for her younger self in regards to dating in high school: “There’s a lot of fish in the sea and you have got to go swimming, you know? The person you’re with in high school might not be your forever or they might be your forever. But, [it’s all] trial and error.”

You can watch Condor’s character, Lara Jean, deal with a high school love triangle of her own right now on Netflix when you stream “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You” and you can check out all of her advice about owning your power in the video above.
