These Girl Scouts sold cookies next to a marijuana dispensary

A troop of Girl Scouts is being praised for its savvy business tactics after choosing to set up outside a marijuana dispensary.

Dispensary 33, a medical marijuana retailer in Chicago, shared the news on its Twitter account on Feb. 9.

“Reporting to you live at Dispensary 33. We have Girl Scout cookies!! And not just the cannabis kind,” the dispensary wrote. “Support your local Girl Scouts with us.”

The dispensary’s video instantly went viral, and has since been viewed more than 17,000 times. While many customers were apparently excited by the pairing, Dispensary 33 told Complex the promotion was not their idea. Abigail Watkins, the store’s marketing and outreach manager, said the troop was one of a few that approached them about a collaboration.

“The cookies they’re selling and our clientele, it’s a great match,” Watkins said. “As a former Girl Scout, I admire the hustle.”

It’s also worth noting that “Girl Scout Cookies” is the name of a popular marijuana strain, which Dispensary 33 just so happens to sell. Many Twitter users seemed to be excited by the combination of the two.

“Huge shoutout to the Girl Scout troop with the cookie sales table set up outside Dispensary 33. You’re the future leaders America needs,” one user wrote.

“Really smart because you know people going in and out have cash,” another noted.

A few people did seem slightly more upset by the idea though, suggesting that the troop could’ve found a more wholesome place to sell.

“Wow that’s a great (and possibly questionable) idea,” one Twitter user wrote.

“SHAME on [the parents] for allowing daughter to be near druggies,” another added.

But it seems like the tactic was successful, regardless of how others felt. The troop sold “hundreds of boxes” that day, WMAQ-TV reported.
