Mom uses makeup to remake daughter’s hand-drawn portrait

A mom is going viral on Reddit after “recreating” her young daughter’s drawing — using her own face and makeup.

Denise Esktrand’s has kept a framed portrait of herself inside her house for nearly 12 years — ever since her daughter drew the image by hand, according to Insider. The picture, which was clearly made by a child, shows Esktrand with huge lips, striking eyeshadow and plenty of eccentric makeup.

Finally, after more than a decade, Esktrand decided to make herself look exactly like the portrait. The mom shared her outrageous attempt to the r/funny subreddit on Feb. 24, where it’s since received nearly 120,000 upvotes.

“My kid did this portrait of me over 10 years ago. I still look the same, IMO,” Esktrand wrote, sharing a side-by-side of herself and the drawing.

The hilarious image shows just how far the mom went to mimic her daughter’s drawing — coating her mouth in lipstick, frizzling her hair and even drawing massive, fake eyelashes onto her face.

Esktrand told Insider that her daughter, now a 19-year-old college student, had a positive, but jealous, reaction when she saw the now-viral photo.

“She did her usual eye roll, but thought it was hysterical,” Esktrand said. “Many posters were concerned about her emotional wellbeing, that I was mocking her drawing. The only thing she was annoyed with is, ‘I post selfies all the time and they never go viral.'”

The vast majority of Reddit users seemed to agree with Esktrand’s daughter, throwing plenty of praise at the mom for her “brilliant” idea.

“This made me laugh quite a bit. I love you,” one user wrote.

“Kid nailed it,” another added.

Others were even more supportive, playfully suggesting that the resemblance was totally uncanny.

“Woah woah woah there…which one is the painting? The photo realism is uncanny!” one user joked.

“Another unrealistic beauty expectation. Not all of us are born with single lashes and perfectly triangled eyebags,” another wrote.

Esktrand, meanwhile, told Insider she was surprised her post got so much attention. She added that she’d spent years staring at the portrait on her wall — using it as a sort of daily reminder.

“I’ve adored this picture as it hung over my makeup vanity for 12 years,” she said. “Not only do I love it because my daughter did it, [but] it reminds me to put on lipstick, in an aggressive way.”
