The perfect travel tote is hard to find — until you get your hands on one from Longchamp.
It’s been more than a decade since Longchamp’s nylon totes first entered my life, and over the years, they’ve seen me through all types of travel: Flights, trains, road trips, beach days, you name it. Named “Le Pliage,” the totes come in several sizes and even more colors.
My first trusty Le Pliage was a large shoulder tote in a shade of sandy nude. I used it in lieu of a backpack to haul textbooks across campus, and when I wasn’t using it for school, it was my go-to personal item for flights. Often I didn’t even need an additional carry-on bag.
While the exact style has evolved over the years, the updated version is currently on sale at Nordstrom at a 25 percent off discount, bringing down the price from $155 to $117.

Although the nylon totes are super durable, I eventually wore down my first one and moved on to a new color. There are endless cute options, so it’s pretty hard to choose! I’m a big fan of this crisp crimson, which is available in the original Large Le Pliage style, as well as this bright, friendly orange.
For me, the next item on my shopping list has got to be the Le Pliage Expandable Nylon Tote, which triples the bag’s capacity and can function as a full-on weekender. I could easily fit a few days’ worth of clothes and other necessities in this thing, and I love the detachable long strap. No hands is the way to go, especially when I’m in a rush.
While I do adore the classic navy, especially with the red detailing, it’s always hard for me to resist pink when the weather starts to change.

Don’t need that much space? You can’t go wrong with the smaller size, which still holds a pretty significant amount of stuff. The cornflower blue is great for summer months, as is the chalky ivory, but if you’re looking for a year-round staple, black might be your best bet.
