Brandon Maxwell is gifting wedding dresses to brides in need

The business of fashion might be one of the largest industries effected by the economic decline and global spread of COVID-19, but companies and designers are still doing their part to help lessen the blow.

For instance, LVMH announced it would be transitioning its luxury perfume factories to produce free hand sanitizers and Gap is now pivoting its resources to make masks and scrubs for healthcare workers. Meanwhile, designers like Prada, Armani, and Versace have all donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to hospitals around the world.

Brandon Maxwell is another designer who is using his platform for good. The New York-based designer, known for his modern approach to evening wear, recently took to social media to announce he will be donating three wedding dresses to brides in need. With the current pandemic continuing to postpone large gatherings and millions of people facing repercussions of the economy, Maxwell wants the world to “believe an optimistic moment to look forward to is important.”

“As a company who has been fortunate to play a small part in so many women’s special days, we realize the current crisis and the economic repercussions from it may have already deeply affected you. In times of darkness we must look to the light, and we believe an optimistic moment to look forward to is important. As a result, we’re gifting 3 wedding dresses to brides in need…” the designer explained in a lengthy Instagram post.

The “Project Runway” judge is enlisting the help of his friends Gigi Burris, the luxury headwear designer, and jewelry designer Eva Fehren, to donate veils and wedding bands.

In addition to gifting the wedding dresses, Maxwell is also part of the growing number of fashion designers who have decided to step up in using their resources to create protective medical masks in lieu of the COVID-19 shortage. Christian Siriano, Miuccia Prada and Michael Costello have also volunteered.
