These chic sandals are made of plastic and plants—and you’d never even guess. Rothy’s, the shoe brand that spins thread from recycled water bottles, just released two new sleek sandal styles for spring and summer. Here’s to sunny days ahead.

The sustainable new sandals come in two styles: the Knot and the Triple Band. As indicated by the name, the Knot features a sophisticated knotted detail at the band of the shoe. The style comes in black, sand, red, and cobalt stripe. The Triple Band, which is a simple three-strap sandal, comes in sangria and black colors, as well as hot pink and cobalt basket stitch options.

The shoes feature a plant-based footbed and vegan leather soles. The upper fabric, as always with Rothy’s footwear, is made with recycled plastic bottles. Since the brand’s launch in 2012, Rothy’s has recycled more than 53 million plastic water bottles for use in its shoes.

The brand is certainly well-loved by celebrities. Meghan Markle has worn Rothy’s time and time again, as have Mandy Moore, Busy Phillips, Jessica Biel and Katie Holmes.

The release comes at a time when many of us aren’t often wearing shoes due to social distancing measures. But along with the launch, Rothy’s released a welcomed and optimistic message about the current state of the world.

“We know sunny days are ahead,” the brand website reads. “And in preparation for warmer temps — and all the social gatherings we look forward to planning — we’re slipping into two new chic sandal silhouettes … Here’s to the bright days to come.”

The brand is also donating 100,000 non-medical masks to essential workers. Now that’s multiple ways of doing good.
