There’s nothing more satisfying than breaking into a new beauty product, especially when it has an utterly perfect surface almost too pristine to crack. Just ask TikTok: Tatcha’s gel lip mask is currently going viral on the platform thanks to videos of buyers dipping into the product for the first time.

However, what truly has buyers (and social media users) raving about the item is the mask’s top-notch performance. Tatcha’s Kissu Lip Mask is said to be soothing and non-sticky, giving users softer and smoother lips.

While that’s probably enough for many beauty lovers to hit checkout, the main feature that has the mask going viral on TikTok is its gel texture. Multiple videos of people breaking the unmarked surface of the light pink mask have more than 450,000 likes on the platform and upwards of 3 million views.

When the product was first released in 2018, it sold out in a staggering 13 minutes — and virtually disappeared. The product was then on hiatus for a year until being brought back in December 2019 — and it has sold out again and again and again since its comeback.

Buyers appear to have little remorse over giving in to the product’s all-around viral hype. The recently re-released mask has over 67,000 loves on Sephora and countless 5-star reviews on Sephora, Tatcha and other selling platforms.

The jelly mask includes peach extract to repair cracked lips and calm irritation as well as rose extract to hydrate and smooth. It also contains nurturing natural oils rich in vitamins and omegas.

Tatcha is a brand inspired by Japanese beauty traditions. According to the company, its products use traditional recipes with chopped peach seeds and natural oils to treat dry, flaky lips.

One reviewer writes, “This was super hydrating for my lips, it smells good and isn’t overwhelming with the scent. When I wake up every morning my lips are butter smooth.” Several other reviewers note that the product is their new “holy grail” lip item.

TikTok users may have gravitated toward the mask for its satisfying seal, but there’s a lot more to the product that makes it worth trying.
