Celebrities are showing off their would-be Met Gala looks at home

For the past few weeks, social media has been flooded with photos of A-listers all dressed up with nowhere to go. Literally.

Ever since Billy Porter and Vogue teamed up to issue the Met Gala Challenge, celebrities have been taking to social media to share both recreations of old Met Gala looks and their would-be 2020 ‘fits.

In case you missed the announcement, Porter and Vogue issued a Met Gala challenge on April 22 “that pays tribute to the night’s peacocking spirit.” All it involves is recreating “your favorite red carpet look from a past Met Gala at home.”

Well, celebs have been absolutely stepping up to the plate.

Mindy Kaling, for instance, recreated her favorite look: Jared Leto’s head-turning get-up from 2019.

“Recreating one of my favorite Met Gala looks ever with the help of a tarp, some Christmas lights and packing tape,” she wrote. “I think Alessandro Michele would approve.”

Figure skater Adam Rippon, meanwhile, emulated 2015 Rihanna on May 1 in what appears to be a giant fuzzy blanket.

Other celebrities instead took the opportunity to showcase what they would have worn to the Met Gala had it not been canceled.

“What I would’ve tried to wear to the Met Gala this year,” Amanda Seyfried captioned a photo of herself in a floral blue dress.

“Here’s me…not going to the Met Ball tonight,” Julia Roberts wrote on a photo of herself all dolled up in a black-and-white tutu gown.

Katy Perry revealed what would’ve been her Met Gala look: a custom “suit of armor” made for her growing baby belly.

In light on the global pandemic, the 2020 Met Gala is currently postponed indefinitely. Until the event gets a new date, at least we can enjoy some of these fashionable (and funny) looks.
