‘Summer House’ stars dispel misconceptions about their romance

Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula have never shied away from showing the highs and lows of their relationship on “Summer House” over the years.

In four seasons of the cult Bravo hit, the couple has gone from casual Hamptons hookup to engaged to be married, with cheating, fights, reconciliations and laughs in between — a lot of which, of course, has been documented by the “Summer House” cameras.

Placing a spotlight on their relationship through a reality show has opened Kyle and Amanda up to receiving criticism and input from viewers — a lot of whom don’t know the full story, as the couple explained during a joint interview with In The Know’s Gibson Johns ahead of the season 4 finale of “Summer House.”

“The judgment and criticism that some viewers have I feel like often is directed towards the wrong person — in this case, Amanda. I’m the one who cheated. I’m the one who put her through hell,” Kyle said. “Meanwhile, 9 out of 10 times, I kind of get off the hook, I guess, because I’m a goofball.”

“She gets the push back and sometimes the hate. And I think the biggest misconception is that our relationship is just full of drama and it’s full of super highs and super lows,” he went on. “We’re just normal people.”

As far as Amanda sees it, the most pervasive misconception about their relationship is tied to their very difficult third season on “Summer House,” which centered on the fallout from Kyle cheating on her and featured a second round of allegations that were dispelled.

Apparently, not everyone got the memo that Kyle’s infidelity was a one-time occurrence.

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that Kyle has cheated on me multiple times. I love reading the comments where people are like, ‘He’s cheated on you at least four times that we know of.’ And I’m like, ‘What four times are these that you know of that I don’t even know of?'” Amanda laughed. “In season one, I mean, Kyle kissed three people on camera. We weren’t together!”

“There was one moment. The other one was a rumor. But it was one time, and we worked through it,” she added. “And we spent a year working through it.”

Additionally, because of how their casual romance was portrayed on the first season of the show, a lot of fans think that Amanda and Kyle’s relationship was initially just a booty call situation which, again, is not the case.

“The other biggest misconception that is very apparent now this season is that people think Kyle and I started our relationship as a booty call. But we were together for nine months without a title on it before season one,” Amanda explained. “In that first season, I was going over there at night because I couldn’t go during the day because they were filming. So, if that makes me a booty call by definition, then fine.”
