Donald Glover is not in the ‘Community’ cast’s group chat

The ‘Community’ fandom got a rare treat!

The cast of NBC’s hit sitcom reunited on the “Darkest Timeline,” a podcast hosted by two of the show’s former stars, Joel McHale and Ken Jeong. Eight of the original castmembers filmed the virtual reunion after a table read of an old episode, according to ET Online.

Gillian Jacobs, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie and Jim Rash joined with creator Dan Harmon. Chevy Chase was notably absent from the podcast. (His character was killed off in season five and, thus, was not involved with the reading that spurred the reunion.)

On the podcast, the gang reminisced about their unique synergy and cracked some jokes in the process. But when Brown asked Jacobs to share a video in the group chat, Glover got a rude awakening: he’s not in it.

“There’s a group chat? I’m not in this group chat,” Glover said. “I literally, after this, I literally was going to be like, ‘We should have a group chat.’ There’s no group chat?!”

Brown said everyone in the group assumed Glover was too busy. It’s not an unfair assumption. Glover’s abrupt departure from the show stirred controversy amongst its diehard fans but proved to be a positive career move. Glover went on to win five Grammys as the rapper Childish Gambino and two Emmys for his series “Atlanta.”

“So, y’all didn’t put me in this group chat,” he asked, as everyone laughed. “Wow, it is kind of funny. Afterwards I was going to be like, ‘I should start a group chat.’ If I had started one, would you guys have told me there was one already?”

Jeong joked that no, they wouldn’t have told him. The table read of season five’s “Cooperative Polygraphy,” will drop on YouTube on May 18 at 2 p.m. PT. The reading will raise money for José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods in addition to donations made by the “Darkest Timeline Podcast.”
