Raise your hand if you’ve been enjoying a few at-home happy hours in recent months. 🙋‍♀️ Yep, you’re not alone. At the onset of the global pandemic, U.S. sales of alcoholic beverages increased by 55 percent in March, specifically a week after most stay-at-home orders were put in place, according to market research firm Nielsen.

Bar carts have never been so full or looked so chic. Nonetheless, if you love a well-crafted cocktail but aren’t into the hassle of stocking up on bitters, infusions and other specialty mixers, there’s a solution: The Bartesian Cocktail Maker is like a Keurig for alcoholic beverages.

The Bartesian has five glass bottles for filling with all of your favorite types of liquor, from rum and tequila to whisky and vodka (sold separately, of course).

Once you’ve filled the bottles and locked them in place, you can choose from a variety of cocktail capsules containing the ingredients for mixing drinks — think margaritas, whiskey sours, old fashioneds, cosmopolitans and more. The capsules, which are also sold separately, are dated for freshness and contain real juice concentrates, bitters and extracts.

Simply drop a capsule into the reservoir, select your preferred strength of cocktail — mocktail, light, medium or strong — and press mix to instantly make yourself a drink.

“The drinks are a surprisingly tasty and well balanced cocktails. Initially, we were worried that they might be too sweet, an issue that plagues most off-the-shelves, pre-mixed ‘cocktail mixes’. These are not too sweet,” wrote one Amazon reviewer who also said they were “very pleased” with their Bartesian.

The Bartesian Cocktail Maker launched last year and swiftly made it onto Oprah’s 2019 list of favorite things. However, some may compare it to DrinkWorks, another automated cocktail maker that was actually created by trusted coffee maker brand, Keurig. The biggest difference is that DrinkWorks capsules contain alcohol, while Bartesian’s only contain the mix. The result is a more customizable, quality drink.

The Bartesian Cocktail Maker costs $349.99, which yes, is pretty steep. But, so is filling up your own bar with quality mixers and spirits. On the other hand, capsules for the Bartesian cost about $15 for a pack of six. Considering how much you would spend on the mixers alone, or the same drink at a bar, it’s a pretty fair price.

So for virtual happy hours and future guest-filled parties, a Bartesian is the simple way to go. Complicated cocktails aren’t actually complicated at all when all you have to do is drop in a capsule and press a button.
