Getting your groceries delivered is a luxury you don’t know you need until you try it. For starters, it saves you time, but it can also save you money by preventing last-minute purchases on your way to the register. Before you hit buy, you see your total right in front of you.

Amazon Fresh might be the first service that comes to mind when you think of online grocery shopping. However, Shipt is another same-day delivery service that works with Target, Meijer, Costco, CVS, Petco, Winn-Dixie and more — including local stores — to deliver groceries and goods right to your door.

Think of Shipt like a food delivery service, similar to Grubhub or Postmates, but for grocery stores. When you input your zip code on the website or corresponding smartphone app, you’ll be provided with a list of retailers in your area that use the service.

Once you choose a store, shop for your groceries and other home items like you would on any other online shopping site. A vetted Shipt shopper then heads to the store and does your shopping for you. If the store is out of something on your list, you can ask the shopper to skip the product, find a backup on their own or call you to confirm a substitution. Then, they deliver the goods — it’s that easy.

According to Shipt, delivery can be scheduled in as soon as one hour, and the delivery fee is $10 (plus a tip for your shopper, if you choose to include one). Although you should keep in mind, due to the global pandemic, delivery may be delayed in some areas.

To reduce the delivery fee, you can purchase Shipt passes at checkout, which replace that standard fee for less. For example, if you purchase five Shipt passes at once, they’ll cost $8 each and reduce your fee by $2 for five deliveries. In the long run, this would save you $10.

However, the best option for frequent shoppers is the Shipt Everyday pass, which guarantees free deliveries over $35 for a full year and costs a one-time fee of $99. If you shop twice a month for a year using Shipt and only submit orders over $35, you’d save yourself $140 in delivery fees.

Shipt is especially great for shopping at more local and regional grocery stores. So take a look, and see what’s offered in your area. You may choose to never mosey down a grocery aisle or wait in line again.
