8-year-old stages BLM protest in video game

A little boy is going viral after his mother shared a video of him organizing a Black Lives Matter protest in a video game.

On June 20, TikTok user Cat Hunt shared a video of her 8-year-old son advocating for the Black Lives Matter movement while playing Animal Jam. The virtual protest — like many others happening all over the world — is a response to the recent killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, as well as the numerous Black people who have lost their lives to police brutality.

“Are you guys having a protest?” Cat asks her son, to which he enthusiastically responds, “YES! YES!”

@catimaice

my freaking heart. My son staged a protest in his game because some idiot said to stop talking about #georgefloyd #blacklivesmatter #blm

In the game, Cat’s son and his friends shared the same message: “BLACK MATTER.” (According to Cat’s son, the game prohibits them from writing “Black lives matter.”) They staged a mini-protest after a hostile user told them “to stop talking about George Floyd,” according to the video caption.

Though one of the young activists wrote the controversial message “WHITE AND BLACK MATTER” during the video game protest, Cat’s son explained that they just “don’t understand” the implication of their words. (They are just kids, after all!)

People are inspired by Cat’s son’s activism and outspokenness.

“This is so wholesome,” one person said.

“Cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Warms my heart. Kids have such kind souls,” another user added.

“The next generations are going to bring some truly amazing paradigm shifts,” a third person commented. “I’m so excited.”
