A 21-year-old is using TikTok to call out the ‘twisted’ world of college Greek life

A college student is going viral after sharing the incident that led to her being allegedly forced out of her sorority.

JJ Jordan, a 21-year-old who attends Florida State University, posted the personal confession on TikTok, where it’s since been viewed more than 3.7 million times. In her clip, Jordan calls out the “twisted and screwed up world” of Greek life that she says she’s “stayed quiet” about for years.

Jordan explains that she joined FSU’s Kappa Delta chapter in the fall of 2017, after which she began experiencing “extreme displays of elitism, censorship and slut-shaming.” She adds that she ultimately left the sorority the following spring, although not entirely by her own choice.

According to her video, the TikToker was brought before a sorority “standards” meeting, during which one of her sisters claimed she’d seen Jordan passed out naked inside a fraternity house.

Jordan completely denies that claim, according to BuzzFeed News. Furthermore, she told the outlet that if her sisters actually believed she’d passed out in a frat house, they never offered her any support or help whatsoever.

“I was never asked if i was hurt. i was never told, ‘the girl shouldn’t have left you there.’ i was shamed and left alone,” Jordan captioned her video.

“As I began to explain myself out of it, I realized I shouldn’t have to,” Jordan told BuzzFeed about the “standards” meeting. “I realized it was very concerning that no one was saying, ‘Are you OK?’ No matter how much truth or falsity there was to the statement … That really became an issue with me. I really was not OK with that.”

Jordan was then placed on probation by the sorority’s national chapter and ultimately decided to leave Greek life completely. Two years later, the 21-year-old is speaking out about other injustices she witnessed as a sorority member.

“I speak from a huge place of privilege,” she told BuzzFeed News. “And if I was targeted and victimized in this way, that is just the tip of the iceberg for other queer women, or for women of color.”

She added that she was originally “nervous” to speak about her experience, saying she “didn’t want to take away from the Black Lives Matter movement.” Some commenters on TikTok seemed to agree, writing that she should “read the room” before sharing something that could distract from conversations about racial injustice.

Still, others were heavily supportive, writing that they’d had similarly negative experiences with Greek life.

“As a fellow [Kappa Delta] who dropped — thank you for speaking up!!! My experience with Greek life wasn’t great either. Thank you for your courage + vulnerability,” one user wrote.

“People forget that just because their sorority/frat experience was great, the foundation itself was built on all of this horrible stuff,” another added.
