Fastest henna artist in the world comes out with glow-in-the-dark ink

Being able to say you’re the world’s fastest henna painter is definitely a flex.

East Londoner Pavan Dhanjal holds the Guinness World Record for it. In 2012, she completed 512 unique henna armbands in an hour. The skill has allowed her to work with celebs like Perrie Edwards and Ellie Goulding. Dhanjal runs Pavan The Henna Bar where you can get custom henna tattoos and take educational classes on the ancient tradition.

But if you want to see Dhanjal’s speed in action without booking a flight, you’ll have to hop over to her TikTok. While most henna dye is black or burgundy, Dhanjal works in white and pastel colors that give a unique flair.

One of Dhanjal’s coolest takes on the art form is neon henna. She sells the specialty henna on her website. However, it is important to note the ink is UV sensitive, not glow-in-the-dark. That means a black light is necessary to make the colors pop.

In a popular clip, the artist has an orange and green design painted on her hands, arm, cheek and face. When she snaps her fingers, the lights turn off, and the henna glows as vibrantly as any light sign.

If Dhanjal seems like a seasoned pro, it’s because she’s been at it since she was a teenager.

“Henna is so important in our culture and I picked up a henna cone at a friend’s wedding and really loved it so I decided to take a course,” Dhanjal told Sally Lane Jewelry. ” I remember telling my aunt I’m going to be the best at this and she was like, ‘OK good, go for it.’ I was 16.”

And the rest (record-breaking) is history!
