When it comes to meat, quality is key. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to grass-fed beef or organic chicken at their local grocery store. The founder behind ButcherBox, a meat delivery subscription service, wants to change that.

Massachussets-based company ButcherBox was founded by Mike Salguero, a man with a love for grass-fed beef due to its taste and health advantages. According to the brand’s website, Salguero realized only 1 percent of total beef consumed in the U.S. is 100 percent grass-fed and started the company in the seat of a café in 2015. The company rapidly grew and today, ships premium cuts of beef, pork and chicken — all humanely raised free of antibiotics and added hormones —  to customers all around the United States.

Here’s how ButcherBox works: First, you choose your box. It currently offers five different options — you can customize your own or choose a curated option by the brand. Choose from all beef, beef and pork, beef and chicken or a mix. If you decide to go the custom route, you actually get to choose from over 20 different cuts of each type of meat and get 20 percent more product (which makes sense, as it’s a little more expensive).

The custom box starts at $149 per month and includes 9–14 pounds of meat, which is about 30 meals. The curated boxes start at $129 per month and contain 8–11 pounds of meat, which is about 24 meals. However, you can increase the size of your box if you’d like, up to 60 meals. But, all boxes, no matter the plan, ship free.

Once you’ve chosen your plan, you’ll receive one box per month. The meat comes frozen in an insulated box, but you’ll definitely want to make sure you have room in your freezer, assuming you don’t want to cook it all at once.

ButcherBox offers recipes, tips and tricks for cooking meat, so if you aren’t sure about what to do with your box, rest assured it can help you with that too. (Although, lately, we’re really into using grill pans for cooking tender meats.)

If you’re a meat-lover, it’s worth at least looking into ButcherBox for not only saving you time shopping but saving you money and guaranteeing the highest quality meat for you and your family.
