Peter Parker got a PS5 makeover in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and fans are divided: ‘Look how they massacred my boy’

It looks like Sony just snapped Peter Parker again.

Fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man were initially elated to hear that the 2018 game was getting a remastered version that would be shipped with the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales. That changed once gamers saw a new Peter Parker who looks very different from the original version.

Sony explained that Peter Parker’s model was changed to more closely resemble Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who voices the character in-game. To accomplish this, Ben Jordan (who very much resembles a young Yuri Lowenthal) was cast for the new model to replace John Bubniak.

Fans of the game on Reddit were shocked by the revelation and some of them had strong opinions on the matter.

“Look how they massacred my boy,” A Redditor lamented, a reference to the scene in “The Godfather” when Vito Corleone sees Sonny’s body on a slab.

The gamers who preferred the original model said that John Bubniak better portrayed Peter Parker’s backstory in the game. In the game’s storyline, Peter was approaching his mid-twenties and had already been fighting crime for eight years as Spider-Man.

“I’m kinda bummed, I really liked the old model for Peter,” Another Redditor said, “He looked genuinely like he’d been Spider-Man for eight years, there was a lot of emotion in that face and I relate to that more than thi more fresh-faced looking verison.”

However, not everybody was disappointed by the recasting. Some Redditors welcomed the change.

“I for one actually thought the old model looked kinda weird,” A Redditor said. “Still a bit shocked by the new one, but I think it will be better in the long run.”

Others in the Reddit thread speculated that John Bubniak was replaced by Ben Jordan because of a dispute with Sony. If John Bubniak turned down the offer to return as Peter Parker for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, then it might be jarring for gamers who played the first game to see a completely different Peter Parker show up in the sequel.

No matter where you stand on the Peter Parker recast debacle, it’s hard to deny that the rest of the game looks great. Lowenthal also chimed in on the controversy with a different call to action than fans expected.
