Celebrities have revealed some interesting things about their romantic lives during the quarantine era. Singer Demi Lovato is no exception.
The pop star shocked fans when she announced she was dating and quarantining with soap opera star Max Ehrich in March. However, the relationship burned out quick: In July, they got engaged, and by September, they called it quits.
So, here’s the real story behind Max Ehrich, Demi Lovato’s ex-fiancé.
Max Ehrich grew up in New Jersey.
Ehrich was born on June 24, 1991. The 29-year-old grew up in Marlboro, N.J., and spent his summers as a kid at French Woods Festival, a performing arts summer camp in upstate New York.
He is a well-known TV actor.
The actor is probably best known for his role as Fenmore Baldwin in “The Young and the Restless,” which earned him four Daytime Emmy nominations. You may have also seen him in Netflix’s “Walk. Ride. Rodeo” or Lifetime’s “American Princess.” Disney kids might even recognize him from a recurring guest role on “Shake It Up” and as a principal dancer in “High School Musical 3.”
He also sings.
Like any good Hollywood up-and-comer, Ehrich also sings. His Instagram is littered with videos of him playing piano and serenading fans with Coldplay and the like.
Some of the lyrics include: “I’m afraid to give up my heart / I’m afraid to lose against love / I’m afraid, afraid to be broken apart / So I play, I play safe / Holding my guard.”
Ehrich and Demi Lovato had a whirlwind relationship.
In March, outlets began to report that Lovato and Ehrich were in a relationship.
“Demi and Max have been seeing each other for a few weeks now,” a source told E! News back in March. “They have been quarantining together at Demi’s house and it’s going really well.”
People speculated Ehrich was living with Lovato thanks to this Instagram post where he appears shirtless at her home. Things became social media official when the couple appeared in Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande’s “Stuck With U” music video together in May.
In April, even before Lovato and Ehrich confirmed they were dating, rumors circulated that Ehrich was going to propose to Lovato. (Keep in mind that they’d only begun dating the month before.) Then, on July 23, 2020, the coupled announced they were engaged on Instagram.
“I knew I loved you the moment I met you. It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too,” Lovato wrote in the since-deleted post.
On Sept. 7, they celebrated their six-month anniversary and were happier than ever. However, after some drama online, Ehrich and Lovato called it quits on Sept. 24.
So what happened?
People accused Ehrich of being a clout-chaser after some of his old tweets lusting after other celebs, like Selena Gomez, started circulating online. In one alleged tweet, Ehrich even supposedly said that Gomez was more attractive than Lovato.
Lovato defended her fiance at first, but clearly, she eventually saw through his lies.
“It was very hurtful to Demi when she realized that Max’s intentions weren’t genuine,” a source told People. ″Breaking off the engagement was not an easy decision.”
Ehrich did not handle the breakup well.
“To this moment … we haven’t spoken over the phone … we haven’t even officially ended anything to each other, literally,” he said in a series of stories. “I love Demetria and just want her to be healthy and safe.”
He has done his best to remain in the public eye post-breakup. That includes staging a photo op at the beach where he proposed to Lovato. He just sat there in the sand crying.
Lovato is rumored to be lawyering up now because Ehrich won’t leave her alone.
“She is having all sorts of issues with Max not leaving her alone” a source told E! News. “He has been trying to get in contact with her family and friends and they have all blocked him. She’s in contact with lawyers now on what to do.” Yikes.
Ehrich is supposedly now dating “American Idol” alum Sonika Vaid. He even posted a captionless picture of himself with the singer, further fueling rumors. Maybe he’ll take her to the beach if she’s lucky.
