A boyfriend doesn’t feel at home with his live-in girlfriend because of her decor choices.
He went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” to discuss the matter. After moving into his girlfriend’s place, she wouldn’t allow him to hang any artwork. Then things escalated over a puzzle.
“My girlfriend and I have been together four years, living together for one year,” the user said. “I moved into her place. It’s immaculate all the time. And every single piece of art on the walls is important to her. I get it. But since moving my entire life out of my apartment and up into the attic here, I haven’t been allowed to hang a single piece of art. Or anything, anywhere. It’s a constant fight and I don’t feel at home here almost a year later.”
One day the girlfriend brought home a Vegemite jigsaw puzzle.
“I get home and notice a framed jigsaw puzzle (picture is a jar of Vegemite, of all things) is standing on the table,” the boyfriend explained. “I ask ‘what is this?’ It’s a gift from a friend, she says. I say, ‘Great. You’re not hanging that up.’ Cue a giant fight, where I basically tell her this is not my house at all, it’s her house and I’m just a guest. A guest that pays rent. There’s not a single f***** thing in this house that represents or reflects me and that’s how you like it. And your friend doesn’t get to hang something in this house before I do, end of story.”
Reddit users didn’t quite understand why the girlfriend was behaving this way.
“She’s being absolutely ridiculous,” one user wrote.
“He absolutely shouldn’t be apologizing at all,” another commented.
“It should be a place for both of you, not just her!” someone said.
