Thanksgiving and Black Friday are a minute away, which means sneakerheads will most likely be scavenging for deals. Hypebeasts can also expect to find several sweet releases this week, though they might have to compete for limited quantities.
And that brings us to bots. For the past several years, some dedicated sneaker buyers have used bots — automated software that immediately completes the checkout process and makes purchasing multiple pairs of sneakers easier — to secure the most coveted kicks. But, according to Racks Hogan of “The Flip,” using bots might not necessarily be a smart move.
“I don’t really like that method because it’s like a kind of an unfair steroid advantage,” he says on the show’s latest episode. “I don’t really like that … I don’t think it’s really smart to use a bot because retailers are hip to it. They will cancel orders if it seems that it was botted out or a bot was used to checkout, so just beware.”
Hogan instead suggests getting “on the ground” and buying sneakers the old-fashioned way (at a brick-and-mortar store), where it’s almost guaranteed that a buyer can snag the sneaker they want as long as they get to the store early enough.
With that being said, consider waiting in line in person if you want to cop the following pairs of sneakers.
Lifestyle brand Concepts has partnered with Nike to come out with this highly sought-after sneaker based on the turducken. Comprised of textured plush leather and fuzzy suede, the shoe is meant to imitate the “look and feel of a male mallard duck.” It also has a toile print on the insole and collar lining, just in case sneaker fans still don’t get the theme.
The “Turdunken” comes in a custom sneaker box that includes a pair of chicken-inspired socks, a Concepts x Nerf football and three different laces. It’s set to retail for $190, but Hogan expects that price to jump to as much as $1,000.
It seems like Adidas has decided to give the world of esports a shot, taking advantage of gamer Ninja’s popularity on this latest collaboration. The 29-year-old is best known for his competitive play on Halo 3 and his friendship with some high-profile names, including Drake, Travis Scott and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
This sneaker is mostly blue for a reason: it’s modeled after Ninja’s style. It also has a “Time In”-branded tongue and a translucent blue heel to round it out. Still, for the retail price of $180, the shoe isn’t expected to command that much attention in the resale market, Hogan says.
Shop: Nike Kobe 5 “Bruce Lee”
Throughout his life, NBA legend Kobe Bryant often spoke highly of martial artist Bruce Lee. “The one thing – among many – that I have learned from Bruce’s philosophy of Jeet Kune Do is being able to adapt,” he once told the South China Morning Post. “It’s about having the fundamental skills available so that you can react to any situation.”
This Thanksgiving, Nike has decided to pay tribute to Bryant’s fondness for Lee, releasing this special edition of the Kobe 5. The sneaker has a black and yellow upper and red scratch marks near the toe — a reference to Lee’s character in “Game of Death.” It retails for $180 — a price worth paying if you’re a fan of both Bryant and Lee. As far as its resale value is concerned, Hogan says it’s probably best to just hold onto it as a memento since, ultimately, there’s no price anyone can put on Bryant’s legacy.
