This inclusive skincare brand wants to give melanin-rich skin the attention it deserves

Growing up, actor and model Dorion Renaud distinctly remembers watching commercials and noticing a severe lack of representation for all races and ethnicities. That lack of diversity inspired him to found Buttah Skin, a skincare brand with a mission to “give melanin-rich skin the attention it deserves.”

“We are inclusive, but it is my job to highlight people that look like me in front of the camera,” Renaud explained to In The Know.

According to the CEO and founder, Buttah Skin is designed specifically for melanin-enriched skin because it targets the problems that many melanin-rich individuals deal with in their skincare routine.

“A lot of African Americans and people with melanin in their skin struggle with hyperpigmentation,” he explained. “So it was really important for me to introduce the world of serums to the African American and colored community so that they can learn how to use that the right way and help with their skin.”

As the son of a barbershop owner, Renaud understands the importance of self-care and knows what a difference confidence can make. Through Buttah Skin, he hopes to instill a sense of self-love in all of his customers and help them learn to appreciate their skin, both with the right products and on a deeper, existential level.

“With my campaigns and every photo and every ad that I put out, it is imperative and it is my job and purpose to highlight Black people in the most beautiful and most royal way that I can,” Renaud explained. “And that is my mission at Buttah, even outside of creating amazing products, is to create amazing imagery of us and Black people as I see them.”
