TikTok beauty gurus love bestowing us with helpful makeup tips — and this blush hack could be a serious game-changer.

Conventional wisdom always said to smile and put blush on the apples of the cheek. But back in September, TikToker Maritsa dropped a video that made us all rethink blush placement.

Where you put your blush can make all the difference, according to the makeup artist. In fact, it can slim or plump your face, depending on what features you want to highlight.

“These two blush techniques are supposed to accentuate your cheeks in different spots so you can create two very different rosy looks,” In The Know’s Lisa Azcona said. She tested the blush hack so you don’t have to.

First, Lisa applied blush onto the apple of her right cheek and softly blended it in. She opted for Revlon’s Powder Blush in “Apricute.”

“This technique promises to give you a rounder facial structure and bring a little bit of warmth and color to your face,” Lisa said.

On her left cheek, Lisa did things a bit differently. She placed the blush above her cheekbones, in the same area most people would apply a highlighter. Then she blended up and out.

“This method claims to create the illusion that your face is more lifted, toned and snatched,” Lisa explained.

A side-by-side comparison proved both types of applications successful.

“I can definitely see the difference in looks here,” Lisa said. “I think that applying blush on the apples of the cheeks is more fitting for an everyday look because rosy cheeks are more natural-looking and youthful. Applying blush to the top of my cheekbones creates a slimming effect and in my opinion, it’s more fitting for a nighttime look or a special occasion.”
