Tokyo-based company wants to ‘buy your face’ for hyperrealistic masks

You can sell your face to Tokyo-based company Kamenya Omote for 40,000 Japanese Yen or $384.

But don’t worry, it’s only a copy of your face that the company needs to turn into a hyperrealistic mask. The project is called That Face and it’s accepting submissions from Tokyo residents who are 20 years old or older. Participants will receive a portion of any profits should their face become a popular mask, however, the identities must remain anonymous.

“We will buy and sell your faces. A science-fiction story has now become reality. No one yet knows what will happen to a world full of the same faces as you,” Kamenya Omote told Newsflare.

Footage shows a woman donning the mask of “Anokao.” The mask, which is of a man’s face with long dark hair, looks eerily real from some angles, although it is clearly a bit big for the woman’s stature. At the end of the short clip, the woman takes off the mask to reveal her true self. Science-fiction indeed.

The mask is based on the face of a real Tokyo resident who’s in his thirties according to the online shop. While the “Anokao” is currently the only mask available, the company is holding a lottery to select candidates to make more.

Kamenya Omote’s designers use photos and 3D data to hand-make the specialty masks with each one taking several hours. The company also makes other masks depicting mythological creatures, pets and anime characters.
