Flight attendant exposes ‘disgusting’ reason you shouldn’t drink plane water

Flight attendant Kat Kamalani is going viral on TikTok for her warning about how disgusting drinking the plane water really is.

“Rule number one: Never consume any liquid that is not in a can or bottle,” Kamalani says in her video.

By this, Kamalani is referring to when flight attendants go up and down the aisles during the flight to offer drinks like tea or coffee, in addition to bottled water and canned soda.

“[The] water tanks are never cleaned and they are disgusting,” she explains, before adding that she and her coworkers hardly ever drink coffee or tea on the flight.

According to Kamalani, the water tanks are rarely cleaned unless they break.

For parents with young kids who need to mix formula with hot water, Kamalani recommended asking for bottled water and a cup of hot water instead. Then after putting the clean water in their children’s bottles, they can place it in the hot water to heat it.

A 2019 study by the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center found that passengers should even avoid washing their hands on flights with the tap water provided on flights, given that the water is coming from the same tank. Instead, passengers should consider using hand sanitizer.

“You guys should clean them,” a person commented. “Seriously that’s messed up.”

“This is irresponsible!” another added.

“[Flight attendants] aren’t mechanics who have access to welded sealed water tanks on a plane,” another explained.
