Phillip Lim’s Fall ’20 collection is for the curious, worldly girl

“Cool,” “curious” and “worldly” are just some the keywords Phillip Lim used to describe just who the 3.1 Phillip Lim girl is.

Ahead of his Fall 2020 debut, In The Know caught up with the New York-based designer at his Soho flagship store during Fashion Week to talk about the inspiration for Lim’s latest collection.

“The inspiration for Fall 20 was taking a step back, because I believe sometimes when we are in a space where we are moving so fast, it’s nice to take a step back and re-explore, kind of our foundation,” Lim explained.

Lim’s skill — apart from his talent to create a coveted wardrobe of elevated classics – is his attention to detail and functionality. Oversized suiting, relaxed tailoring and statement leathers made up this collection of modern androgynous dressing. This season’s hit item? Undoubtedly, the chunky sole boots every It-girl will be investing in.

“The fabrications we use really dictate why New York style is New York. It’s functional, elegant elevated, but also like, elements of street …” Lim told us. “So, it’s really the combination of masculine, feminine and everything in between to really allow us to shape what is a New York City uniform.”

For the person who equates comfort and style together, and is always on-the-go, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s assortment of understated-yet-stylish separates is worth knowing.
