He’s All That, the first true Addison Rae movie and a Gen Z reboot of She’s All That, has finally got a release date.
Teen films were a staple of the late ’90s and early ’00s. But with superhero franchises taking over the last decade or so, it may be time for a return to form — and teenage melodrama. Here’s everything you need to know about the reboot of the classic 1999 high school dramedy.
What is He’s All That about?
The story will follow a female influencer who is dared to transform the school’s least popular kid into prom king. The premise reverses the roles of the original in which a popular boy made over a nerdy girl. It’s also not too different from the narrative of the other 1999 classic Drive Me Crazy, which starred Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier. Plus, that one had a Britney Spears bop as the theme song.
Will the original cast of She’s All That return for the reboot?
OG star Rachael Leigh Cook will reprise her iconic role as Laney Boggs and Matthew Lillard will return as Brock Hudson.
However, Freddie Prinze Jr. won’t be coming back as Zack Siler, though the film has his blessing.
“I think it’s good that they’re remaking it. People forget. I saw on social media somebody wrote, ‘How dare they remake She’s All That?’ I’m like, man, it’s good with me. We were a remake of a remake of a play!” Prinze Jr. told ET Online. “We were good with it and we gotta be good with it, too. Every generation should have their version of art that they connect to. I hope people aren’t angry about it because if you want to go see it, cool. If you don’t, cool.”
Who is starring in He’s All That?
The film will also star Maddison Pettis, Peyton Meyer, Isabella Crovetti, Annie Jacob and Myra Molloy.
When will He’s All That be released?
The cast announced on Instagram that She’s All That will air on Netflix on Aug. 27, 2021. The movie completed filming in December 2020 and in Mar. 2021, Netflix bought the right to release it globally.
