After arguing with boyfriend, woman wins nearly $200,000 lottery: ‘It just doesn’t seem real’

A Virginia woman is in high spirits after she won nearly $200,000 playing a Lucky 7s Tripler game — and it was all thanks to an argument she had had with her boyfriend, according to a press release from the Virginia Lottery.

On July 2, the state lottery announced that Chyanne Creel of Roanoke was the winner of the $177,777 prize.

Creel had reportedly gotten into an argument with her boyfriend Joshua, and the two had decided to go on a drive to cool off. When the couple later stopped for gas at a station in Vinton, Creel asked her partner to get a drink along with some scratcher tickets. One of those tickets was apparently a Lucky 7s Tripler game, which involves matching any of the symbols on the ticket to any of the “lucky” symbols in order to win the prize shown for the symbol. If a “777” symbol is revealed, the player wins triple the prize of the given symbol.

When Creel scratched her ticket, she purportedly told Joshua, “Come look at this!”

That was when the two knew what to do.

“We turned right around!” Joshua told Virginia Lottery officials after redeeming the ticket.

According to the state lottery, there is still one more unclaimed $177,777 prize in the game. But the chances of winning the top prize are slim. The odds are about 1 in 1,040,400.

With those figures in mind, it’s unsurprising that Creel and her boyfriend were shocked by the sudden turn of events.

“It just doesn’t seem real,” she said.
