Woman blown away by boyfriend’s reason for ‘abandoning’ her at the hospital: ‘Dump him now’

A woman’s boyfriend is mad at her for having a medical emergency during a fútbol(soccer) game.

The woman shared the incident on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum. She had appendicitis while they were about four hours away from home. She required immediate surgery and had to stay at the hospital for a few days. The day her boyfriend had to pick her up was the same day as a football game he wanted to watch. Instead of getting her from the hospital, he ditched her for the game.

“Last weekend, I ended feeling a wee bit poorly with what turned out to be appendicitis,” she wrote. “We were away for the weekend with my partner, so I had surgery at a hospital three to four hours away from home. I had a small complication during surgery, so I had to stay [overnight]. My partner returned to work, but he came back to pick me up. The timing was bad because there was an important football game yesterday and it was really important for my partner to watch it. I suggested booking a room near the hospital so we wouldn’t miss it due to the drive, but he wanted to see the game at a friend’s place. He said he’d make it.”

But when it took a while for her to be discharged from the hospital, the boyfriend became upset.

“While we were waiting to get me discharged, he was getting agitated because it was taking a long time,” she explained. “After a couple of hours, he sent me a text that he had to leave or he’d miss the game. I begged him [not to] leave and reminded [him] I could book a hotel. But he left without me. He said he’d come [to] pick me up tomorrow instead. The hospital wouldn’t let me stay another night or leave [me] alone. Luckily, one of my friends came to get me in the end. The whole evening I was texting and calling my partner. When I got home in the night, he was so angry at me. He said I was the most selfish a****** for constantly ringing and texting him during the game and that I ruined the game for him and embarrassed him in front of his friends. He said he [could not] even look at me and that I bring so much drama with me it’s humiliating to him.”

Reddit users thought the boyfriend’s behavior was a red flag.

“Dump him now!” someone suggested

“Abandoning you in a foreign [place] after major surgery, then guilting you for calling and texting is abuse,” another wrote.

“You need to run like hell away from that dude,” a user said
