TikTokers are ‘belly laughing’ to trending Alberto Balsam remix

TikTokers have gotten so comfortable on the app that they’ve started a trend of them farting on camera — not literally, however.

The trend is centered around a specific song, which is “Aphex Twin” by Alberto Balsam. The version we’re hearing in the videos was created by @phonographicmaterial. The page responded to a commenter and made the “Echo fart remix” to the song in late 2021. The video that debuted the remixed song currently has over 1 million views.

In the fart trend videos, users normally have a partner. Once the specific noise happens in the song, one person bends over — standing in front of their partner to block them — who then either blows chalk, powder or another visible substance to give the illusion of a visible fart. Then the two switch places to repeat, as the sound has two such moments.

This video of two friends participating in the trend is everything you need to know about it.

“The way y’all are so entertained by it makes me laugh so hard,” said @not_casss

Although the remix of this song is perfectly made for fart jokes, users are starting to use this sound to meme something else, which is a specific way that men commonly raise their hands in class.

The joke on many of these videos is that men, or a certain demographic of men, raise their hands by only putting a couple of fingers in the air rather than their entire hand. As the commenters in @texas_martin’s video show, this type of hand-raising is familiar to many people.

“Not the 2000s Disney channel cool boy hand raise,” replied @mr.mango4848

“BRO THIS ONE IS A LIL TOO ACCURATE,” said @ganii2x.

The two trends under this one couldn’t be more different, but that’s the beauty of TikTok. A sound made for fart jokes can easily be used to make fun of something so simple as raising your hand.
