It might sound contradictory, but the sharper the knife, the less likely you are to cut yourself. A dull blade requires more pressure and can often slip on smooth produce rather than cut straight through.

However, a whole new knife set will cost you. You can find a decent six-knife set by Cuisinart for about $40, but prices only go up from there, even up to several hundred dollars. So, if you have a set of dull knives, it’s worth trying to sharpen them before replacing them.

The Kitchellence 3-Stage Knife Sharpener is Amazon’s No. 1 best-selling knife sharpener with over 15,000 positive reviews, and it’s currently on sale. The knife sharpener regularly retails for $30, but during Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale, it’s over 50% off.

“This sharpener saved my knives!” wrote one Amazon reviewer. “My knives [went] from squashing tomatoes to cutting them like butter!”

The sharpener has three slots for sharpening. According to the product description, the first diamond sharpening slot repairs and strengthens damaged blades, the second slot sharpens to restore a knife’s V-shape and the third slot fine tunes for a clean polish.

For added safety, the knife sharpener has an ergonomic handle and comes with a cut-resistant glove. Simply hold the handle and gently glide your knife through each slot a few times for the best sharpening results.

Keep in mind that you shouldn’t have to sharpen your knives all of the time, but rather a few times a year and mostly older knives. Knife sharpening grinds and shaves parts of the blade off to produce a new, sharp edge.

So, if you have older knives that you want to revive, the Kitchellence 3-Stage Knife Sharpener is your best $14 bet.
