TikToker reveals ‘perfect’ life hack for getting rid of bad smells in your car

A TikToker is drawing praise after sharing the “perfect” way to make an air freshener for your car.

The trick, which allegedly keeps bad odors out of your car for much longer than a traditional air freshener, is just the latest cleaning hack to go viral on the app. Users have also shared their tips for cleaning messy floors without a dustpan, saving money on fabric softener and keeping shower doors from getting dirty.

This new life hack comes courtesy of a user named Micah Griffin @micah.griffin. In his clip, the 19-year-old explains that he saw the trick elsewhere on TikTok and had to try it himself.

The video shows Griffin walking into Walmart and purchasing a few packs of Better Home & Gardens-branded scented wax cubes. The cubes are generally used like candles, with the wax releasing a fragrance as it melts.

Instead, Griffin purchases a small salt shaker and brings the haul back to his car. Then, he breaks up a few cubes, sticks them in the shaker and closes the lid.

“When it melts, it’s finna be elite,” the TikToker captioned his video.

The trick, in theory, allows for a slow, consistent fragrance to stay in your car — especially when it’s hot out. Some commenters called the hack a “perfect” way to make an air freshener, adding that they also used the method themselves.

“I’ve been doing this for years,” one user wrote.

“This is gonna work perfect in Houston,” another added.

“As someone who hates those tree air fresheners, I’ve tried this, and I love it,” another wrote.

Others were confused by the hack, though. Many commenters claimed that the trick didn’t work for them.

“It melts, but no scent,” one user claimed.

Almost no TikTok hack goes viral without disagreements, so it’s hard to know the truth for sure. Thankfully, anyone with a few dollars and a hot car can try it and find out themselves.
