Going to a party this holiday season? It’s nice to bring your host or hostess a gift to say thank you. The best hostess gifts are usually small home goods or something for entertaining. However, while you may think of bringing wine, a candle or flowers, consider something different from the norm: a stovetop simmer pot kit.

Stovetop simmer pots (sometimes called “stovetop potpourri”) use fresh fruits or dried aromatics like cinnamon sticks, pine needles, oranges, cranberries and more to fill the home with an incredible warm and spicy scent. They’re especially nice around the holidays when you have guests over and don’t want to leave a candle out. Simply mix the ingredients with water and let it simmer on the stove.

You can DIY your own stovetop simmer pot, or you can get this $22 Stovetop Simmer Fragrance Kit from Anthropologie. The latter is already put together for you in a pretty glass jar with a wooden lid. It’s perfect for gifting any host or hostess.

Anthropologie’s kit comes in two cozy scents: Orange Clove and Bay Citron. (There was the Apple Cinnamon scent too, but it recently sold out.) Orange Clove is a spicy scent that mixes dried orange rinds, red apples, tea leaves, rosehip oil, tonka beans and fresh ginger root. Bay Citron is a more woodsy scent that mixes lime zest, citron, oranges, cinnamon, cloves, balsam and cedarwood.

To use, the kit’s description says to add 1/4 cup of the jar’s ingredients to a pot of water over low heat and gently let it simmer to fill the home with its delicious scent. You can actually re-simmer the same pot for up to one week.

These kits make a great gift because they’re unique — and they smell incredible. Plus, they’re only $22, so you could get a few, like one for your host and one for yourself.

If you want to go all out, Anthropologie also sells a bigger Stovetop Simmer Fragrance Gift Set for $44. The whole kit includes the Apple Cinnamon candle, a Bay Citron sachet for hanging in the car or closet and the Orange Clove simmer pot kit.

While bringing a host or hostess gift isn’t always necessary, it’s a very nice touch, especially around the holidays. And nothing says thank you like a thoughtful, pretty gift they’ll actually use.
