5 awesome after-school snacks that are packed with nutrients

Healthy after-school snacks help benefit a child’s growth and development because they provide added nutrients that kids might need between meals. Thanks to creative TikTok users, there are plenty of recipes for fun and healthy snacks to keep your kids fueled until dinnertime. Here are five after-school snack ideas that will have everyone wanting a playdate at your house!

1. Apple slice nachos

TikToker and mom Bri’s (@goodbyetwenties) apple slice nacho recipe is a clever twist on a classic snack. Bri uses a mandolin to get those perfect, even apple slices. After arranging the slices in a circle on a plate, she tops off the dish with a drizzle of warm peanut butter and caramel plus a handful of chocolate chips. An apple a day tastes great this way!

2. Mini everything bagel dog bites

Level up your pigs in a blanket with TikToker Alissa’s (@ketomamaalissa) mini everything bagel dog bites recipe. After generously sprinkling on everything bagel seasoning, she bakes the blanketed franks on a sheet pan. Serve with your favorite condiments, and you’ll surely get your kid’s seal of approval, too.

3. Tortilla wrap

Who can resist a freshly made tortilla wrap? They’re the perfect afternoon pick-me-up that’s filling without being too heavy. TikToker and nutritionist Beril Berger (@smartgusto) shared a tortilla wrap recipe that’s healthy, quick and easy to make. There’s no better introduction to spinach than with a tortilla wrap.

You can use muffin tins for much more than just muffins. TikToker and mom Sarah Barnes (@tamingtwins) uses a muffin tin to make a fun after-school snack tray. Barnes allocated a variety of veggies, fruits, crackers and some sweets for a balanced and pre-measured assortment of snacks. 

5. Halloween snack board

No matter the season, your kids will be delighted to come home to a decorative snack board. This Halloween version from TikToker Casey Wiegand (@caseyleighwiegand) is a festive array of fall treats. Add some pretend cobwebs and spiders so the mix of healthy and sweet treats can have some spooky company.
