Even Academy Award-winner Halle Berry is participating in this hilarious Twitter joke that’s all about the actress Keke Palmer. Here’s what you need to know to follow the trend.
What’s the Baby, this is Keke Palmer on Twitter?
Now, let’s get to the meme about the Hustlers and Akeelah and the Bee star. As @itsdamone explained in a Tweet, the internet joke was born out of a strange misunderstanding.
The user @TrixieNumba9 (whose account is now suspended) tweeted out an old photo of Palmer from the Akeelah and the Bee press tour with an explicit caption.
The tweet prompted an unusually direct message from a stranger that @TrixieNumba9 later shared.
“Excuse me ma’am, not to be disrespectful or rude but could you please take post down. That is my sister who was killed by a metra train. And it this post is very disrespectful. Idk who you are or if you even know her but I need you to take this down please,” the person said of the Palmer photo.
@TrixieNumba9’s response was so simple that it became iconic. “Baby, this is Keke Palmer,” she said. Just like that, the meme was born.
Keke Palmer responded to the meme about herself.
On March 6, 2021 Palmer showed she had a sense of humor about herself when she donned a wig and glasses to resemble the old photo of herself. She even quoted the direct message from the original meme.
“Baby, this is Keke Palmer,” she said. “This is motherf***ing Keke Palmer.”
But that wasn’t the only time she referenced the meme.
On April 8, 2021, Palmer tweeted the iconic photo, saying, “My granny was such a vibe in the 1940s.” To which Halle Berry responded, “Baby, that’s Keke Palmer.”
Palmer was referencing the “my grandparents” meme where people grab photos of celebrities, place a sepia or black and white filter on top and claim the famous folks are their grandparents. It’s getting pretty meta in here.
