Putting on deodorant is one of the first things I do in my everyday morning routine. And at this point, I honestly don’t give it much thought. I’ve been using whichever deodorant I find first at the grocery store for years, and as long as I don’t smell at the end of the day, I’m pretty happy.

But after a quick conversation with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd, I realized I needed to change it up.

I have very sensitive skin from head to toe, so when I asked myself why I never cared about which deodorant I was putting on my body every day, I didn’t have a good answer. And seeing as my skin gets especially dry in the winter, I figured now was a great time to make the switch from my normal deodorant to one without aluminum to help keep my skin irritation-free.

According to dermatologist Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd: “Switching to a product like the Dove 0% Aluminum Deodorant Spray can be beneficial for those with more sensitive underarms. Made with no aluminum and no baking soda, Dove 0% Aluminum Deodorant Spray not only gives you that instant fresh feel but also keeps odor at bay for 48 hours. It also contains Dove’s ¼ moisturizers, so it’s gentle for the delicate skin on your underarms.”

And while buying an aluminum-free deodorant is a great first step, don’t add it to your shopping cart without first scanning the ingredients. Not all formulas are created equally!

Dr. Woolery-Lloyd explained that “baking soda is a common ingredient in aluminum-free deodorants, but it can cause irritation including rashes, burning, and redness. If you are using an aluminum-free deodorant and experiencing irritation – check the label. You may be using a product with baking soda, and that could be the source of the irritation.”

Not only is Dove 0% Aluminum Deodorant Spray recommended by dermatologists like Dr. Woolery-Lloyd, but it can keep you odor free for a whopping 48 hours. According to the brand, the product protects you from smell by using zinc neodecanoate to eliminate odor in two ways: capturing body odor and eliminating odor-causing bacteria.
