There are a few styles and materials that are quintessential summer vacation staples, and handwoven basket bags rank at the top of the list. While finding one that doesn’t look pathetically cheap is easier than it sounds, one is considered the standard, and that’s the Loewe Raffia Basket Tote Bag.

While it’s definitely a timeless summer staple that’s been around for decades, in reality, it’s just way too expensive for the average shopper, retailing at a whopping $650.

This year, though, there are three bags from brands we know and trust — Coach, Mango and Target — that have an almost identical look and feel at a huge fraction of the price. I’m talking as cheap at $45!

Loewe Raffia Basket Tote Bag, $650

The super expensive Loewe Raffia Basket Bag has a classic handwoven body and calfskin leather top handles. There’s not much to it. However, since it’s so simple, it’s hard to replicate.

Mango, Target and Coach, however, managed to perfectly execute three alternatives that, in our opinion, rival the $650 luxury bag in design, quality and practicality.

1. Mango Natural Fiber Pocket Carrycot, $69.99

Mango’s Natural Fiber Pocket Carrycot, like the Loewe Raffia Basket Bag, has a 100% straw construction. It also has polyurethane trims, metal details and a cotton/polyester blend lining.

Designed in Barcelona, Spain, this medium tote bag is much more practical than Loewe’s since it has a nice, long and adjustable strap that’s also removable. There’s also an outer pocket and an inside bag for extra storage, making it a much more practical solution for your summer vacay excursions.

2. Universal Thread Straw Basket Tote Handbag, $45

For those who want the most affordable option available, Target’s under-$50 Universal Thread Straw Basket Tote Handbag is your best bet. I’m actually super surprised and impressed by the quality and craftsmanship in this budget-friendly bag.

Made from seagrass and corn husk, this woven bag has an open-top design with double tote handles, a single compartment and an inner zip pocket that gives you extra space for small items like cash or cards.

3. Coach Structured Tote, $395

If you want a luxury handwoven bag with leather details like the Loewe Raffia Basket Bag but want to spend over $250 less, the Coach Structured Tote is, hands down, the best bag to buy. In fact, I’d say it’s a much better bang for your buck than the Loewe best seller.

This lightweight straw and refined calf leather bag has an inside zip pocket, a magnetic snap closure and adjustable handles. It’s also detailed with Coach’s leather badge for an iconic touch. This one is super roomy on the inside and is perfect for taking on vacations or running errands, making it much more versatile than the Raffia Basket Bag.

Also, if you’d rather have it a small size, it also comes in a mini version for $100 less!
