Shop: The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket, $279
“I am one of those people who is always cold. I sleep with a comforter all year round, and I even wear sweaters in the summer. So it shouldn’t be surprising that warmth is literally the only thing that matters to me when it comes to a coat. I don’t care if I look like a marshmallow, as long as I’m warm. I typically like coats that fall below my waist, but I can’t deny this throwback style from The North Face is one of the warmest coats I own. It also happens to be the coat I reach for most often on really cold days. It’s definitely very puffy and slightly oversized, but I love it nonetheless. It keeps the cold out.” — Jeanine Edwards, Commerce Director
Shop: H&M Faux Fur Jacket, $49.99
“My go-to winter coat is definitely a plain black faux fur jacket that’s so soft, warm and goes with everything. Whether it’s running errands or going out to dinner, you’ll catch me in this coat (or one of my several other faux fur coats, to be honest). The only time I hold back on wearing faux fur is if it’s raining. I’m not going for a wet dog look! I originally got my black faux fur coat from Gap a few years ago. Though it looks like the brand no longer sells it, I also have a leopard print H&M faux fur jacket — and it comes in black this year. I couldn’t recommend a black faux fur coat enough! – Ellie Conley, Commerce Editor
Shop: Andrew Marc New York Amersham Down Parka, $399 (Orig. $595)
“I believe in the philosophy that a winter coat should be one of the few splurge-worthy staples in your wardrobe. After all, you’ll technically get several uses out of it year after year. A winter coat that’s well insulated, fashionable and versatile enough to wear with multiple different looks is hard to find. That’s why when I stumbled upon this Andrew Mark down parka in early 2020, I scooped it up on sale. It’s currently back on sale for the holidays, so take advantage of this classic winter necessity before the price reverts.” — Moriba Cummings, Commerce Editor
Shop: Tahari Marla Belted Wrap Coat In Black, $160 (Orig. $400)
“I have owned this coat for literal centuries — seriously, for almost a decade. It got me through snowy Syracuse winters in college and now gets me through chilly NYC winters. I love the belted waist for definition and chicness. But the star of this coat is the hood. It is absolutely massive. I feel like a goth Little Red Riding Hood in it, which is a very high compliment.” — Katie Dupere, Commerce Editor
