Though 2020 has largely been a dumpster fire, video-sharing app TikTok has served as a welcome escape during this time, bringing us fun dance trends, silly viral videos and surprisingly useful life hacks.
Of course, the platform wouldn’t be what it is without its stars, many of whom have used their success on TikTok to break out into other industries and form their own empires. These influencers have captured the world’s attention — and they’re just getting started.
On Dec. 2, TikTok shared a list of the top creators on the platform as part of its year-end roundup. The list is comprised of “the creators in the U.S. who rose to be TikTok’s biggest breakout stars of the year, inspiring hundreds of millions of people to cook, dance, laugh, and wash their face.”
Below are the top 10 “rising stars” on TikTok, according to the company’s year-end report.
10. Noah Beck
Noah Beck, notably unproblematic member of Sway House and current boyfriend of Dixie D’Amelio, rounded out TikTok’s list at No. 10. The former collegiate soccer player is known for his shirtless videos, goofy dancing and collabs with other stars.
8. Michael Le
You probably recognize dancer Michael Le from his viral escalator videos, one of which has racked up 25.6 million likes. The TikTok star is currently costarring in Snapchat’s Move It!, the world’s first interactive dance show.
7. Addison Rae
Even skincare gurus like Hyram Yarbro have a place on TikTok. The skincare expert, who has 6.7 million followers on TikTok, is also popular on YouTube; in fact, the platform dubbed him one of the top breakout creators of 2020.
5. Wisdom Kaye
According to Vogue, Wisdom Kaye is the “best-dressed guy on TikTok.” His outfit compilations, which often capture the zeitgeist of the ’70s, are both fun and informative.
Artist Devon Rodriguez amassed an impressive TikTok following of 9.5 million by masterfully sketching random people he sat near on the subway. Most recently, the 23-year-old sat down with TikTok star Bella Poarch and presented her with a drawing of herself.
3. Bella Poarch
Though Bella Poarch only joined TikTok in April, she is already one of the most-followed people on the app. One of her videos, in which she bobs her head to “M to the B,” is also the most-liked video on the app to date.
1. Charli D’Amelio
Oh come on — you knew this one was coming. Charli D’Amelio is the most-followed person on TikTok and the only person to boast more than 100 million followers. With all her sponsorship deals and brand collabs, she was also the second-highest earner on TikTok from June 2019 through June 2020, according to Forbes.
