Bindi Irwin drops major family news: ‘We couldn’t wait to share’

Bindi Irwin and husband Chandler Powell dropped some pretty big news on Instagram: they’re expecting

The couple married in March and the new bundle of joy will be their first child together. Naturally, the newlyweds announced the news in uniform at their zoo in Queensland. The pair held up an infant-sized khaki uniform shirt that has become a signature of the Irwin family.

Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021,” 22-year-old Bindi said. “Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honor to share this special moment in our lives with you. Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter.”

Bindi and the Irwin family star in Animal Planet’s “Crikey! It’s the Irwins.” It’s not surprising that mother Terri Irwin had some kind words about the matter.

“This is the best day ever! I am over the moon to announce that @BindiIrwin and @chandlerpowell9 are going to have a baby! Words cannot express the love that is filling my heart,” Terri tweeted. “While I wish that Steve was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud.”

Steve Irwin, AKA the Crocodile Hunter, died during a diving expedition in Australia in 2006 at age 44. Since then, the Irwin family has taken up his mantle of educating audiences about wildlife worldwide. During Bindi and Powell’s wedding ceremony the bride and groom made sure to honor Steve.

“We had dad’s picture with his dog Sui blown up on an easel,” Bindi told People. “So mom and Robert [her brother] were standing right next to dad as we exchanged vows. We had a candle-lighting ceremony for him and it really felt like he was there with us. It was a lovely moment of peace and happiness.”
