A woman thinks it was OK for her to ditch her friend’s birthday dinner.
She explained what went down on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum. Her friend invited her to a birthday dinner. After waiting an hour for the friend to show up, she and her boyfriend decided to leave. Now the friend is furious that the Reddit poster didn’t respect her birthday wishes.
“We had made plans to go to a fancy dinner reservation for 10 on a Wednesday at 8 p.m. I get off work and drag my boyfriend to the dinner while meeting up with another friend in our friend group to go to the dinner party,” the Reddit poster wrote. “We get seated at the reserved table at 8:05 p.m. At 8:20 p.m. they still haven’t arrived nor have they texted. We decided that it’s just typical her and continue to wait without bothering to contact her. By 8:30 p.m. we decided we are super hungry because we were coming from work so we just order some food.”
But after an hour, she and her boyfriend were ready to pack it up and leave.
“We had finished our food and boxing up by 9:10 p.m. So we decided to pay our tab and texted the birthday girl that we are leaving,” the Reddit poster said. “She finally blew up my phone as we are leaving saying they are on their way and to stay just long enough till her other friends can still have the table. We decided we weren’t going to do that and left. Their group apparently showed up to the restaurant around 9:30 p.m. Now this person is gaslighting me telling me that I don’t care that it’s her birthday or care for her at all.”
Reddit users chimed in with their opinions.
“Her behavior was unacceptable,” one person wrote.
“It’s selfish beyond belief,” another said.
“Your friend is rude and so are the rest of her party members,” someone said.
