Nordstrom officially launched its first-ever gender inclusive clothing collection just in time for Pride Month.
BP. Be Proud, by the retailer’s in-house label Nordstrom Made, features a range of gender-bending silhouettes for people of all identities. The collection, which bursts with color, was designed to put an emphasis on self-expression through personal style. It retails from $7–$75, and consists of 28 styles including apparel and accessories like hair clips, pins and sunglasses.
“We’re excited to introduce BP. Be Proud — a collection designed for every gender expression. We partnered closely with members from the LGBTQIA community on fit and sizing to ensure this collection reflected what they would want in their own closet. We’re looking forward to hearing feedback from our customers and will continue to evolve and improve the assortment as we introduce more collections in the coming months,” Nordstrom Made designer Shawn Serven said in a press statement.
Additionally, 10 percent of sales from the collection will go to True Colors United, a non-profit organization founded in partnership with singer Cyndi Lauper to serve the unique issues affecting homeless LGBTQIA youth.
Nordstrom worked with New York-based Broadway choreographer Nicholas Palmquist to tap nine dancers from different backgrounds, sizes, genders and ethnicities for the initial BP. Be Proud campaign.
In order to create the collection, Nordstrom consulted members of the “LGBTQIA community to provide insight on what they see as missing from the current apparel landscape, and worked with them to ensure fit and styling was reflective of what they’d like to see in this collection.” The follow-up collection, set to launch in fall 2020, will be based on customer feedback.
