Bride doesn’t wait for her dad to walk her down the aisle: ‘It’s ultimately about ego’

A bride had her uncle walk her down the aisle, and now her dad is upset.

She shared what happened on Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum. Her dad is always late for things and has missed out on other moments of her life. When he was late for her wedding, she made a snap decision to replace him.

She explained that while she loves her dad, he has a “weird need to be useful.” He’s missed many milestones and events in her life to do someone else a favor.

“I told him that if he was late for my wedding I would not wait. I guess he forgot because someone from his church needed some help with their car on Saturday. I did not hesitate. I had my uncle ready to go,” she wrote

Her uncle was always there for her when her dad let her down in the past. So it made sense that he would fill the role. Meanwhile, her father arrived 20 minutes late to the wedding.

“At the reception he was crying because I am his only daughter,” she explained. “I took away his only chance to do this. I am just sick of being an afterthought. My mom says I hurt him. I just think he has hurt me by not putting me first ever.”

Redditors thought the father was at fault here.

“It’s ultimately about ego though because of the contrast of the good intent towards strangers and disregard to the family,” a person commented

“You didn’t take away his only chance of walking you down the aisle, he did that when he couldn’t put your first on your special day,” a user said

“Dad threw his chance away with the choices he made. Deliberately,” another wrote
