Bride slammed for ‘shaming’ bridesmaid’s ‘reasonable’ request

A bride’s attempt to shame her bridesmaid on Facebook totally backfired.

Someone in a wedding Facebook group shared an anecdote on Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum. The Reddit poster shared a screenshot of a message from a bride who posted in the group. The bride declared her frustrations about a bridesmaid’s allergy to lavender, the theme of the entire wedding. The bridesmaid said she wouldn’t go because the lavender would make her sick. However, the bride felt the bridesmaid was being selfish

“Can there be a ‘that’s it I’m bridesmaid shaming’ group?” the bride asked in the Facebook post. “One of mine had been begging me to change the entire theme of my wedding because she is allergic to lavender (which is new to me). After I had a talk with them all about what will be there (real lavender) she threw a fit. I told her I’m sorry and I can try to make sure no lavender will be at her table or bouquet. She still said she can’t come. I’m not mad per se because I understand allergies are a big thing, I have a few myself. But I would not expect someone to change their whole wedding over it.”

The Reddit poster added that “the [Facebook] post reached almost 600 comments in about 25 minutes before it was deleted, the vast majority shaming the bride for choosing florals over a close friend’s health.”

People felt that the bride had the wrong priorities regarding her wedding.

“Really though? Is your dream of lavender more important than having the people you love there?” one person commented

“It doesn’t sound like the friend was being unreasonable,” another wrote.

“I just can’t imagine deciding that a flower decor is more important than a member of the wedding party!” someone said.

The backlash did end up helping the bridesmaid, according to the Reddit poster. The bride eventually decided to ask her florist for alternatives that resemble lavender.
