If you’re sick of dark, gritty shows with murder subplots, then Bridgerton might be for you.
The Regency-era soap, spearheaded by Shonda Rhimes’ production company Shondaland, follows the messy scandals and sex lives of London high society in the 1800s.
But unlike other period dramas, the hit Netflix series’ cast is as diverse and vibrant as Bridgerton’s charming storylines. Below, learn more about the Bridgerton cast, including where you might have seen some of the actors before.
Regé-Jean Page (Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings)
Regé-Jean Page plays Simon Basset, the charismatic Duke of Hastings who ends up engaged to Daphne Bridgerton because, well, scandalous reasons that cannot be spoiled.
The 30-year-old English and Zimbabwean actor has previously had roles on Shonda Rhimes’ For the People and the miniseries Roots. He is a graduate of London’s prestigious Drama Centre London where Emilia Clarke, Russell Brand, Michael Fassbender and Colin Firth also studied.
Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Bridgerton)
Phoebe Dynevor portrays Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter in her family who is seeking a suitable husband and instead ends up entangled with the complicated Duke of Hastings.
The 25-year-old hails from Greater Manchester. She appeared on BBC’s Waterloo Road and in the cult British TV series Prisoners Wives. However, she’s best known across the pond for having starred in Snatch, a TV series based on Guy Ritchie’s film of the same name.
Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton)
Jonathan Bailey plays the eldest Bridgerton son Anthony Bridgerton who, by the end of the first season, is looking to finally find the right wife.
The 32-year-old British actor won an Olivier award in 2019 for his work in the musical Company and starred alongside Olivia Colman and David Tennant on the hit series Broadchurch.
Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington)
Nicola Coughlan plays Penelope Featherington, the youngest of Baron Featherington’s daughter who embarks on her first foray into London society life in the series.
The 34-year-old Irish actor is best known for her role as Clare Devlin on the hit Netflix sitcom Netflix Derry Girls.
Ruby Barker (Marina Thompson)
Ruby Barker plays Marina Thompson, a cousin of the Featherington family who harbors a big secret.
Barker is a relative newcomer to the acting scene, but the 24-year-old has appeared on British screens before on the series Wolfblood and Doctors.
Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton)
Claudia Jessie plays Eloise Bridgerton, the second-eldest Bridgerton daughter. Eloise is determined to find out who the series’ very own gossip girl-proxy Lady Whistledown is.
Jessie is 31 years old and has had roles on Doctor Who and the ITV miniseries Vanity Fair.
Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton)
Luke Newton plays the Bridgerton family’s second-youngest son Colin who’s all about romance.
The 23-year-old actor starred on the Disney+ series The Lodge before snagging his Netflix role.
Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton)
Luke Thompson portrays the second-eldest Bridgerton brother, Benedict Bridgerton. In the first season of the show, Benedict embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
Thompson, 32, is best known for appearing in the blockbuster hits Dunkirk and Misbehavior.
Sabrina Bartlett (Siena Rosso)
Sabrina Bartlett portrays Siena Rosso, Anthony Bridgerton’s (unsatisfied) lover and an opera singer.
You might recognize the 29-year-old for her memorable part on Game of Thrones as a member of House Frey.
Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury)
Adjoa Andoh’s Lady Danbury may look like a bona fide Cinderella, but her sharp tongue and fierce persona is what makes the ambassador of London society and Simon’s mentor ultra meme-able.
The 58-year-old has a stacked resume, with appearances on British television hits like Doctor Who and Silent Witness as well as numerous stage performances in Richard II, His Dark Materials and A Streetcar named Desire.
Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte)
Golda Rosheuvel is Queen Charlotte, a real historical figure. Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was married to King George III and was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland from 1761 until her death in 1818.
You might notice that Rosheuvel is Black, but that doesn’t make her casting inaccurate. Queen Charlotte is believed by many to have been biracial and is historically described as having African features.
Before Rosheuvel became our queen, the 49-year-old Guyanese British actress had numerous stage credits including Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. In 2018, she portrayed a lesbian (and identifies as one in real life) version of Othello in Othello.
