Campfire recipes that go way beyond s’mores

When most people think of camping food, s’mores are usually what come to mind. But the food you serve on a camping trip is just as important as pitching the tent. You might be far from your kitchen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spice up your outdoor adventure with meals that are both delicious and easy. If you’re looking to scale the summit of campfire cooking, here are five camping recipes that go way beyond s’mores.

For a recipe that’s as lit as the campfire, look no further than this cheesy breakfast skillet. TikToker @gavinhikes begins by adding bacon, peppers and potatoes to a skillet over a campfire. Next, he sprinkles on some paprika and salt before adding eggs. After scrambling the ingredients, he adds a final layer of shredded cheddar cheese before serving.

2. Campfire blueberry cobbler

If the country and cobbler symbolize paradise for you, then this recipe is definitely your jam! Start by adding blueberries, flour, sugar, cinnamon, lemon zest and lemon juice to a bowl. Next, add the blueberries to a lined Dutch oven. Add flour, sugar and butter to a bowl. Then fold the butter into the flour and sugar using your fingers before adding milk to form a batter. Top the blueberries with the batter, and cover the Dutch oven with a lid before placing over hot coals. Cook for about 40 to 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

3. Campfire lemon chicken with rice

This lemon chicken with rice really hits the spot when you’re feeling peckish after a long day outdoors. Begin seasoning chicken breasts with herbs, paprika, salt, pepper, lemon juice and chopped garlic. Next, place the chicken on a skillet over an open fire. Once cooked, remove the chicken. Then add chopped onions, pepper and celery to the skillet, followed by broth and uncooked white rice. Place the chicken back in the skillet with the other ingredients, and top off with several lemon slices before serving.

4. Campfire steak and shrimp tacos with cilantro lime butter

This recipe is so tasty, it’s all you’ll be able to “taco-bout” around the campfire. First, season shrimp and steak. Then add those to a skillet over a campfire. After cooking, remove the steak and shrimp. Then toast a tortilla on the skillet until golden brown. Add butter, lime and cilantro, followed by the steak and shrimp to the skillet. Finally, add the ingredients to the toasted tortillas, top with more cilantro and enjoy!

5. Campfire lasagna

Preparing lasagna over a campfire adds an additional layer to the traditional dish. Begin by adding a layer of marinara sauce to a lined pot. Next, add a layer of lasagna noodles followed by a layer of marinara sauce, ground beef and shredded cheese. Repeat this process several more times before topping it off with a final layer of marinara sauce and cheese. Finally, cover the pot with a lid before cooking over an open fire.
