Chilean singer flashes bare chest at Latin Grammys

It was a historic night at the 2019 Latin Grammys in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

Rosalía continued her ascent as one of the most promising Spanish-language acts in the world, winning three major awards: Urban Song, Contemporary Pop Song and Album of the Year. The latter win made her the first solo female artist to win the high honor since Shakira back in 2006.

While Daddy Yankee and J Balvin didn’t attend the 20th annual show in protest of a lack of reggaeton acts being nominated, per the Los Angeles Times, it was singer Mon Laferte who made the biggest splash at the MGM Grand Arena.

Amid deadly anti-government protests in her native country of Chile over its constitution, Laferte made a huge political statement on the red carpet ahead of the show. Though she initially appeared wearing a black trench coat, black pants and a green scarf around her neck, the singer opened up her coat while posing for photographers to completely bare her breasts and reveal a statement written on her bare chest.

“In Chile they torture, rape and kill,” it read in Spanish.
