Remember when your dad, uncle, (much) older brother or even your grandfather would religiously rock corduroy shirts? You know — that heavy, industrial-grade fabric that’s known for its insulation? Well, it just so happens that they were all ahead of their time as corduroy is one of the hottest trends in 2020 men’s fall fashion.

Retailers like Madewell, Old Navy and ASOS have been including updated versions of this classic fall staple in their fashion collections. What makes these not your grandpa’s corduroy shirts are the cuts and colors used. From pastel or dusty pinks and blues to deep, vibrant royal oranges and purples (my personal favorite), it’s safe to say that corduroy is cool again.

In fact, this fall, I’ve updated my personal wardrobe with this jewel-toned purple option from ASOS and its ’90s style cut (a bit broader at the shoulders and tapered at the arm cuffs) had me sold. I was so pleased that I immediately bought four more in different colors.

Think of corduroy as the cold weather’s denim shirt: it can be worn with anything and can be dressed up or down. For reference, I wore the purple shirt above for a semi-casual Thanksgiving dinner, completed with a solid black tee underneath, some black slim-cut slacks and patent leather Chelsea boots. On the other hand, I rocked this sage green option in the same style and fit with some blue jeans and white sneakers while running errands.

Both men and women can wear these shirts — they’re that versatile. Take a look at more options available at ASOS below. They’re all on sale for up to 30 percent off and also feature plus-size options.
