A couple who saved for four years to plan their dream wedding was crushed to find out that the venue they’d picked was shutting down 18 hours before the ceremony was supposed to start.
25-year-old Laura Acton and 32-year-old Adam Woods had been engaged since 2017 and despite Britain ramping up social distancing measures, they thought that they would still be able to have their fairytale wedding as planned.
The devastated couple decided to follow through with their honeymoon in Liverpool and on the way to the hotel they stopped by Burger King.
“Adam ordered some onion rings and when he came back to the car, he told me to put them on and said we can still exchange rings,” Acton said in an interview with The Sun. “You just had to laugh.”
Acton said that her parents had to clear out all of the decorations and food, and the venue was unwilling to give a refund, although they did offer to postpone the wedding date or give her a gift card to a different venue. They’re not sure when they can finally have their dream wedding, but for now, this is enough.
“We can still laugh through this as we have each other. If you sit and cry the whole time, you’re only going to make yourself feel worse,” Acton said.
