If you love crafting, chances are you’ve heard of Cricut. The brand makes machines designed to cut paper and draw designs for you — and TikTok is pretty in love with the gadget.

If you’ve always wanted a Cricut but have been swayed by the size or price, the newest version of the ever-popular crafting machine is the most compact — and cheapest — yet.

The Cricut Joy is called “your DIY best friend” by the famous crafting brand. The device takes everything users love about previous Cricuts, but scales it down in size and cost. The Cricut Joy is only 3.7 pounds, which is far lighter and more compact than previous Cricut models.

The device aids in organization, personalization and customization, helping to create everything from cards to labels to iron-on decals. The brand says that many projects take just 15 minutes from start to finish.

The Cricut Joy has Bluetooth capabilities, hooking up to your phone to allow you to design and cut via an app. The Cricut Joy also is compatible with Windows and Mac devices, letting you design from your computer.

The device can cut more than 50 materials, and “draws any shape and writes in a variety of styles.” To pair with the Cricut Joy, you can buy brand-specific sticker paper or vinyl paper. However, you can also use regular construction paper or cardstock for a more budget-friendly option.

The machine can cut and draw designs that are 5.5 inches wide and four feet long. This is ideal for banners, which can be designed using the machine, while other more common projects probably won’t run close to four feet.

Crafting pros say the compact Cricut Joy is a great introduction into the world of crafting and Cricuts. Many reviewers also say the machine is great for traveling crafters or those who can’t afford a full-size Cricut, which can run up to $400.

Get crafty and creative.
