Custard toast is TikTok’s new favorite breakfast treat.
But is it really good enough to join the ranks of viral snacks like salmon rice, taco pickles and Hailey Bieber’s pizza toast? Based on viewers’ reactions, it seems like the answer might be yes.
It’s easy to see why too. Custard toast is photogenic, easy to make and delicious looking. It’s basically a fancier, (slightly) healthier version of French toast.

Videos using the hashtag #custardtoast have now racked up more than 50 million views on TikTok. But as with any recipe this buzzy, there is some work involved.
So, In The Know producer Poppy Shen decided to see if the end result is worth the effort. To see her review, watch the video above or keep reading below.
How to make TikTok’s famous custard toast
There are plenty of variations on this recipe, but we followed the version foodie TikToker My Nguyen (@myhealthydish) tests in the video above. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Greek yogurt
- 1 egg
- Cinnamon
- Honey
- Brioche bread
- Frozen berries (we went with blueberries, blackberries and raspberries)
To start, mix about a cup and a half of yogurt with the egg, some cinnamon and enough honey to sweeten the mix. Set your oven to 400 degrees.
Next, lay out a few slices of your bread. Using the back of a spoon, create soft indentations in the center of each slice. Pour your custard into the center, then top it with the berries (or whatever fruit you prefer).
Bake the bread for 10 minutes, or until it gets golden. When you’re done, top it off with a little more honey. Then get ready to dig in!
Overall, Poppy was really impressed by this stuff. It makes for an easy, mess-free breakfast or late-night snack, especially if you like French toast.
The yogurt doesn’t overpower the flavor, either. Instead, there’s a perfect sweetness that’ll leave you wanting more. Poppy said she’ll definitely be making this again.
